I am embarrassed to admit I had not heard of Second Life until recently. It is a virtual world community where users create their own “avatars” and interact in the virtual realm as they would in real life. It is about as close to a science fiction author’s brain-child as life can get. It has developed a cult-like following with millions of users participating in a bona fide place of commerce exchanging real money. Big brands have set up presences in Second Life (some have left due to lack of profitability). The video explains more than I can:
